CHICAGO – The CAA Coach of the Year and University of Delaware head football coach Danny Rocco finished in third place for the STATS Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award after final ballots were tallied Wednesday afternoon.
In his fourth season at the helm of the Blue Hens, Rocco has Delaware back in the playoffs two out of the last three seasons and has the program set for a semifinal game against No. 1 South Dakota State Saturday afternoon.
Rocco was a finalist for national coach of the year for the seventh time in his 15-year career and was the winner of the AFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year award, also making him a finalist for the AFCA National Coach of the Year honor which will be announced the week of the FCS National Championship game.
The Robinson Award is selected by a 40-member national media panel and Virginia Military Institute head coach Scott Wachenheim was this season's winner. Wachenheim served as the offensive coordinator for Rocco's first three seasons as a head coach at Liberty University from 2006-08.
The Blue Hens won their 17th conference title and first since 2010, making the program's 22nd playoff appearance. Delaware travels to take on the Jackrabbits for a noon ET kickoff on ESPN in the FCS Semifinals.
