Strien and Duffhuis Receive All-American Recognition

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Synapse Sports each released their 2020 Division I All-American teams on Tuesday evening. Â Senior Femke Strien was named to both the NFHCA and Synapse Sports second teams, while freshman Julia Duffhuis was named to the Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team.
This marks Strien's second appearance as both an NFHCA and Synapse Sports All-American, following first team honors in 2019. Awarded the 2020 CAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Strien finished the year with three goals and five assists for eleven points. This year, Strien has earned two CAA Player of the Week awards, All-CAA First Team, and NFHCA All-Region First Team.
"A shortened season did not limit Femke to go out there and earn All-American honors for the second year in a row," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, "Femke, like all her teammates, worked extremely hard to be the best she could be as a player, teammate and on-field leader. Her ongoing improvements in skills, passion for hockey, and drive to compete propelled her as one of our go-to players. Although Femke has earned a number of individual awards over her four seasons as a Blue Hen, she always focuses on the team goal and performance; she remains humbled about her recognitions and prefers to celebrate those as part of our team's accomplishments."
"As a program, we are excited for her, and ourselves, as Femke has chosen to return for one more year with Delaware Field Hockey this fall!" continued van de Kerkhof, "I know our 2021 players group has character and depth, in addition to being balanced and self-driven. This special group of players, joined by a passionate coaching and support staff, will be in the position to create beautiful and lasting memories for UDFH and the University of Delaware next season. The Blue Hens are looking forward to welcoming Femke back for her last season and to compete for championships in the CAA and NCAA."
Duffhuis was named to the Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team following an impressive freshman season. She was tabbed the 2020 CAA Rookie of the Year, led the Blue Hens with five goals in her freshman campaign while ranking third on the team with ten points. She also ranked third in the CAA in goals per game (0.57) and scored a goal in three straight contests to end the regular season. Duffhuis was also awarded CAA Rookie of the Week on April 20, All-CAA Second Team, All-CAA Rookie Team, and NFHCA All-Region First Team.
"Congratulations to Julia for being named to the Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team for the 2020-2021 season," commented van de Kerkhof, "Julia's on-field performance was impressive her freshmen year and is a great indicator on what could be next for her and the Blue Hens."
