CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Delaware Athletics Student-Athlete Success department's Building Leaders Utilizing Education (BLUE) program, was honored by the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) with the Model Practices Award for Student-Athlete Development for the 2020-2021 academic year.
"On behalf of UD Athletics, I want to thank N4A for the Model Practices Award for Student-Athlete Development. BLUE is not just a leadership program. It's a leadership, life skills, and career readiness program," said Senior Associate AD for Student Services and Leadership, Jenn Judy. "Four years ago we launched this program to help our student-athletes become Hen Ready. The best version of themselves during and after they graduate UD. From the beginning, it has been important to us that all student-athletes participate during their 4-5 years at UD. We've had incredible buy-in from our coaches, administration, and campus partners from the beginning."
BLUE is a four-year educational curriculum supporting our student-athletes' transition into their collegiate experience through their transition out of sport after graduation. The program focuses on leadership development, life skills, and career readiness. Outside of required programs, BLUE will house optional programming related to mental health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, as well as topics relevant to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. Students will engage in a number of programs, workshops, and activities to assist them in becoming their best selves as Blue Hens now and after they graduate.
Judy will be joined by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Chrissi Rawak and Faculty Athletic Representative Avron Abraham, where the group will be presenting a webinar on July 23rd highlighting the BLUE program.
BLUE, which launched in 2017, has a framework that allows for intentional connections between the academic and athletic experiences and is the embodiment of the commitment Athletics has to being a part of the education of UD students.
The Model Practices Award is presented annually to a university or college that displays best practices in their academic & student-athlete development programming. All submissions must be able to demonstrate program longevity (2-3 years) and program effectiveness.
