NEWARK, Del. – 72 days until November 10! Four home games, five road contests, and a Thanksgiving trip to Miami, Fla. will open the University of Delaware women's basketball team's 2021-22 non-conference schedule, head coach Natasha Adair announced Monday.
"We are excited about our competitive 2021-22 non-conference schedule," said Adair. "Our schedule this season has balance and depth. We are intentionally playing different styles and elite-level competition. This will ultimately prepare us for conference play and build a strong resume for postseason."
Delaware will tip off the campaign with back-to-back games from the comforts of the Bob Carpenter Center on Wednesday, Nov. 10, meeting Chestnut Hill for an exhibition matchup and then welcoming Princeton two days later for their 28th meeting. Against the Tigers, the Blue Hens own a 17-10 all-time series lead and are 10-4 on their home court.
The Blue & Gold will open its road portion of the schedule on Monday, Nov. 15, when they travel to Maine for its 25th meeting. In the last 10 matchups, both teams are 5-5 with Delaware capturing the two-point road victory back in 2009. UD will then return to the First State and take the short trip on Friday, Nov. 19 to face in-state rival Delaware State. The Hornets snapped the Blue Hens' 11-game winning streak by a three-point margin in 2019.
Delaware will return to campus briefly to play UNC-Charlotte (Nov. 21) for the second time in program history.
The Blue Hens will then pack their bags and head south for a two-game stretch in the Magic City from Nov. 26 through Nov. 27. Florida International University will serve as hosts to Chicago State University, Delaware, and Eastern Michigan University for a Thanksgiving tournament.
12 years to the exact date, Delaware will travel to New York and play at Columbia (Dec. 2) and then head to Dallas, Texas to battle SMU (Dec. 7) for the first time. The Blue & Gold will close out its road slate at Northwestern on Saturday, Dec. 11. Last year, the Wildcats fell to Big Ten champions Maryland in the conference semifinals and were edged by Louisville in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
The Blue Hens will wrap up its non-conference schedule at home against former conference foe and Atlantic 10 champions VCU on Wednesday, Dec. 22. Both squads last met in 2012 with Delaware holding a 13-7 all-time series advantage and are 8-2 in front of the home crowd. The Rams captured its first-ever A-10 title and fell short to Indiana in the NCAA Tournament First Round a season ago.
