Lee Named to Walter Payton Award Watch List

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware senior running back Dejoun Lee is one of 35 student-athletes named to the 2021 Walter Payton Award watch list announced on Wednesday. The award is presented annually by Stats Perform to the top offensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
Lee was a finalist for the top offensive honor last season after having a spectacular spring campaign. The graduate student won CAA Offensive Player of the Year honors and Stats Perform and AP Second Team All-American accolades in the spring.
A dominant offensive threat, Lee registered 120 carries leading to 564 rushing yards. He finished the season ranked second in the CAA with six rushing touchdowns. Lee also added 16 receptions for 119 receiving yards.
The Walter Payton Award, named for the legendary Chicago Bears running back who played collegiately at Jackson State, enters its 35th season and is presented to the national offensive player of the year in Division I FCS. The Payton Award has been awarded to such NFL players as Steve McNair, Tony Romo, Brian Westbrook, Jimmy Garoppolo, Cooper Kupp and Trey Lance.
