RICHMOND, VA. – The University of Delaware women's basketball redshirt senior forward Ty Battle was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, announced by league officials Monday afternoon. This is Battle's first time being named the top player this season and her second in her career.
Battle hasn't seen the hardwood in 29 days and she immediately put together a memorable career afternoon against Charleston (Jan. 9). The Plainfield, Ill. native posted her seventh double-double of the season after tying her career-best 21 points (7-of-15 FG, 7-of-9 FT) and pulling down a career-high 22 rebounds (eight offensive) to help the Blue Hens secure the 86-84 overtime road win. The double-double machine is now tied for second in program history in total rebounds in a single game (Lori Howard's 1980 record, 22 vs. West Chester). Battle also added two blocks, a steal and an assist to her stat line.
On the season, Battle is averaging 13.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 46.7 percent (56-of-120) from the field. She leads the conference in double-doubles, rebounds (t-1st, 117), rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game (7.0) while ranking among the league leaders in defensive rebounds (2nd, 77), offensive rebounds per game (2nd, 3.6), offensive rebounds (t-3rd, 40), field goal percentage (4th), blocks per game (5th), blocks (t-5th, 12), minutes per game (5th, 34.6) and steals per game (t-8th). Among the NCAA Division I statistical leaders, Battle ranks 19th in double-doubles.
