NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Director of Tennis Pablo Montana has announced the addition of Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell to the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Van Heuvelen Treadwell joins the Blue Hens after completing a decorated career at the University of Iowa.
"I am so excited to welcome Elise to the Blue Hen family and for her to start this spring," said Montana. "Elise has a tremendous tennis playing background and she is recognized as the only player in the Big Ten Conference to earn five First Team All-Big Ten honors. Along with her successful playing experience, Elise also brings a plethora of knowledge from her various coaching stints at different tennis clubs, as well as working as a volunteer coach with the Hawkeyes. I am confident Elise will continue to help us compete for a CAA Championship."
Van Heuvelen Treadwell arrives in Newark after spending the Fall 2021 semester as a volunteer assistant coach at Iowa. She concluded her Hawkeye career in the spring of 2021 as one of the most decorated women's tennis student-athletes in Iowa and Big Ten history. Achieving an individual rank within the top-100 nationally in both singles and doubles, Van Heuvelen Treadwell ranks second all-time at Iowa with 180 combined wins. She was named to the All-Big Ten First Team five times and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2017.
In her final year, Van Heuvelen Treadwell earned the ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. The East Sussex, England native was also named the ITA Central Regional Senior Player of the Year in 2020 and was the ITA Summer National Doubles Champion in 2019.
Off of the tennis court, Van Heuvelen Treadwell was a four-time All Big-Ten recipient and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for achieving a GPA of 3.70 or higher. She also was selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete three times and was named to the Dean's List three times. A member of Iowa Athletics' DEI subcommittee, Van Heuvelen Treadwell also served as a mental health peer supporter for Iowa's student-athletes.
"I would firstly like to thank Pablo and the rest of the search committee for the opportunity to join such a special program at the University of Delaware. I am extremely excited to help Pablo and the team build on the success that they have had in previous seasons. I am looking forward to arriving on campus and meeting all the staff and players and being a part of the Blue Hen family."
