PHILADELPHIA – Let the good news keep rolling for the University of Delaware women's basketball program. After putting together a magical record-setting night on Friday, senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey was named to the Dawn Staley Award Late Season watch list announced Saturday by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia.
The Dawn Staley Award was established in 2013 to honor the nation's best guard in Women's Division I college basketball. The award is given annually to a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed throughout her career; ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win. The late-season watch list is comprised of 17 players from 17 schools and eight conferences. Dickey represents the CAA, as the conference is one of three mid-major conferences represented on the list along with the ASUN and MAC. Four finalists will be announced in Mid-March and the winner will be announced the weekend of the Final Four. The award will be presented Thursday, April 7th.
On Jan. 19, 2022, Dickey added to her resume being named to the midseason watch list for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award by Her Hoop Stats. Prior to the start of the 2021-22 campaign, she also earned a spot on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List in the preseason as well as being named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Player of the Year. The Baltimore, Md. native has not disappointed this season, including leading the nation in points per game for seven-straight weeks (Nov. 29-Jan. 10). Now ranking in second in the nation in points per game with 25.4, she is also averaging 9.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
Last night (Feb. 4) against conference foe Charleston, Dickey exploded for a career-high mark in the Bob Carpenter Center record of 52 points to go along with tying her career-best 18 rebounds (10 offensive). With that monster ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 performance, Dickey sits comfortably in the program's history books in the following categories: second in single-game records, points and fourth in career records, points (1,656). She is also the first player with 52p/18r against an NCAA Division I opponent since the 2009-10 season.
Another one of Dickey's notable performances this season was when she poured in in a second career-best 48 points against Eastern Michigan (Nov. 26), which now moves that mark to third the program history books in points scored in a single game. She eclipsed Elena Delle Donne's 42 points scored at Hofstra back on Feb. 16, 2012 and her career afternoon landed her a spot on ESPN Sportcenter Top 10 plays as the Bonus #1 play.
This season, Dickey has posted one 50-plus, one 40-plus and four 30-plus point game (three consecutive) performances. She has eight double-doubles on the season and has been named CAA Player of the Week twice. Dickey leads the conference in scoring and ranks among the NCAA Division I statistical leaders second in points per game, second in field goal attempts (407), sixth in final points (458) and seventh in field goals made (166), free throw attempts (138) and free throws made (110).
