NEWARK, Del. – The temperature outside was below freezing, but things were certainly heating up on the gridiron as the University of Delaware football completed its fourth spring practice on Saturday. The Blue Hens spent the first hour of practice inside the Delaware Field House before moving out into Delaware Stadium for the remainder of practice.
Head Coach Ryan Carty had the tempo going right from the start as the Blue Hens broke the team stretch and went right into an 11-on-11 drill, pitting the offense against the defense. With the bar set for energy for the remainder of the practice, the squad moved into individual position drills as the coaches continued to work on and preach fundamentals.
When the practice shifted outside into the cold, the Blue Hens spent time working on special teams technique before the offense and defense went into a 7-on-7 period.
What They're Saying
"I think we've made progress from the first practice through today. I've been pleased with our tempo and energy throughout spring but today you could begin to see some execution pick up. We have a lot installed right now, so it's a repetition game at this point, trying not to make the same mistake twice. Steady improvement is what we're looking for. " – Head Coach Ryan Carty
"We have been moving with a fast pace on the defensive side, installing aggressively and getting better. The energy day to day, along with the effort to the football, has been impressive and exciting. " – Defensive Coordinator Manny Rojas
