NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware women's basketball senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey will transition from the Blue & Gold into the Green, Cyan, and Blue to kick-off her professional career as the Baltimore, Md. native was selected Monday evening as the 30th pick in the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings.
"I am going to the league," exclaimed Dickey. "It is just the beginning, I am excited and I am ready to get to work. This is what I worked so hard for and I am so happy to see it pay off."
This past season, Dickey helped lead the Blue Hens to a 24-8 overall record in addition to hoisting up the program's third Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title and a NCAA Tournament Appearance, for the first time since 2013. As a senior, Dickey concluded the 2021-22 season averaging the best numbers of her four-year career. She has led the nation in points per game for seven-straight weeks (Nov. 29-Jan. 10) and finished the year ranked third in the NCAA with 25.3 points per game. Dickey also averaged 10.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per contest while shooting 40.2 percent (284-of-707) from the field and 80.9 percent (190-of-235) from the free throw line.
The back-to-back CAA Player of the Year closed out her career in the Blue & Gold uniform totaling 1,981 points, 1,038 rebounds, 213 steals, 192 assists, 82 steals and 48 double-doubles.
Dickey is just the third player in the University of Delaware history to be drafted by a WNBA team as Tyresa Smith was selected by the Phoenix Mercury as the 18th overall pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft and Elena Delle Donne was selected by the Chicago Sky as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft.
The Dallas Wings regular season begins on Saturday, May 7 as Dickey and her teammates host the Atlanta Dream on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. ET. Less than a week later on Friday, May 13 Dickey and the Wings will play a short drive away in Washington D.C., as they get set to take on Delle Donne and the Washington Mystics.
