No. 3 Blue Hens Fall 4-3 in CAA Semifinals to No. 2 William & Mary

"This one will sting for a little bit but we gave it everything we could today and we came up a little short in the end," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "I'm so proud of these ladies for their amazing resilience and efforts throughout this season and I know that we are going to get stronger and better because of this. I am so excited for the direction this program is heading in and big things are definitely coming our way."
For the second-straight match, the Blue Hens cruised through doubles play, winning the first two matches to take the point. Eliza Askarova and Maria Constantinou opened things up with a 6-2 win at No. 2 before Isabella Montana and Julieta Honrubia clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Constantinou got UD off to a strong start in singles, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 to extend the lead to 2-0. However, William & Mary came back with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to even the match at two apiece.
It came down to a best-of-three with the final three matches still being played at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6. Sujova and Montana each won their respective first sets, but the Tribe came back to win at No. 6 to take a 3-2 lead.
At No. 5, Sujova won her second tiebreaker of the match to claim a 7-6, 7-6 win and knot the overall match 3-3. Meanwhile, Askarova pulled out a second-set win to even her match at No. 1 and force a third set. In a back-and-forth deciding set, it was William & Mary's Mila Saric that eventually pulled out the 7-5 win to win the match for the Tribe.
Delaware closes out the season with a 19-6 overall record, setting UD's record for wins in a season. The Blue Hens advanced to the CAA Championship Semifinals for just the second time in program history.
