Gene Coleman Receives Minicamp Invite with Carolina Panthers

NEWARK Del. – University of Delaware wide receiver Gene Coleman II has earned an invitation to attend rookie minicamp with the Carolina Panthers. Hill will pursue his dream of playing in the NFL this weekend as he looks to earn a contract to attend fall training camp.
Coleman is the fourth Blue Hen this spring to receive a minicamp invite. Last weekend, Nijuel Hill and Dejoun Lee took part in minicamp with the Washington Commanders, while David Kroll received a pair of minicamp invites, participating with the Chicago Bears last weekend and the Indianapolis Colts this weekend.
A consistent threat for the Blue Hens, Coleman appeared in all 11 games, making nine starts in 2021. He ranked second on the team with 31 catches for 426 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Montclair, New Jersey native had five catches for a season-high 120 yards and a touchdown in the season opener at Maine, teaming with Thyrick Pitts to become the first UD duo since 2009 to each have 100-plus receiving yards in the same game.
Coleman appeared in 52 career games in the Blue & Gold, catching 124 passes for 1,461 yards, averaging 11.8 yards per catch. He found the end zone seven times and had three career games with at least 100 receiving yards. He was an All-CAA Second Team selection during the 2020-21 spring season when the Blue Hens advanced to the FCS Semifinals.
