Rowing Captures Fourth-Place at CAA Championships

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – All sights were set on the waters of Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J. as the University of Delaware rowing team was set to compete in the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rowing Championships on May 15. The Blue Hens battled throughout the entire championship, finishing in fourth place with 23 points, headlined by an impressive performance by the Second Varsity Eight boat.
The Third Varsity Eight boat 3rd Varsity Eight (c-Claire Higgins-Hart, s-Stirling North, 7-Meredith Blowman, 6-Bridget Bergan, 5-Madeline Climie, 4-Elena Sherman, 3-Makana Steinmetz, 2-Blair Kennedy and b-Lydia Greenwood) opened the championships with a time of 7:07.531 to earn a third-place finish.
The Varsity Four boat (c-Amanda Schlosser, s-Alexis O'Keefe, 3-Olivia Hollingsworth, 2-Abigail Spangler and b-Maddy Singh) clocked a time of 7:50.637 to place sixth, which was worth two points.
The Second Varsity Eight boat (c-Tierney Ellis, s-Hanaa Abdallah, 7-Alli Burns, 6-Delaney Denegar, 5-McKenna Twitchell, 4-Alexis Skor, 3-Morgan Kline-Hill, 2-Ava Norton and b-Sophia Talley) crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 6:55.157, earning 12 points for the Blue Hens.
Ending the day of competition was the Varsity Eight race (c-Hannah Kirk, s-Cornelia Meiss, 7-Julia Rothstein, 6-Jess Dobson, 5-Sloane Matthews, 4-Maria Dupnock, 3-Hannah Walsh 2-Maddie Curran and b-Hannah Towhey), where the boat finished the race in 6:46.688 to place fifth to total nine points.
Northeastern and Drexel finished with 38 points to tie for first place. With the Huskies winning the Varsity Eight race, they have captured their eighth-straight CAA title, 11th in school history, and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Eastern Michigan rounded out the top three finishers with 26 points. Rothstein and Dobson were named to the All-CAA team after an impressive showing at the championships.
Post-championships, the Blue Hen senior class of Dobson, Kirk, Bergan, Curran, Ellis, Kline-Hill, North, Schlosser and Walsh were honored with the annual Senior Day Ceremony for their dedication to the University of Delaware rowing program.
