Women’s Tennis Welcomes Six Newcomers, Class Ranked Fifth Among Mid-Majors

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's tennis welcomes six newcomers for the 2022-23 season, Director of Tennis Pablo Montana announced Tuesday. The group picks up a fifth-place ranking in the annual TennisRecruiting.net rankings among all mid-majors. The ranking marks just the second time in program history the Blue Hens have landed on the list and highest ever after being ranked 23rd in 2006.
"I'm extremely excited for this upcoming class as I know they are going to impact our program in a positive way," Montana said. "Combined with our returners, I believe this group will allow us to take this program to new heights."
Adel-Byanu Abidullina | Graduate Student | Moscow, Russia | School 49 | Central Oklahoma
Abidullina joins the Blue Hens with an impressive resume as a two-time NCAA Division II All-American in both singles and doubles at the University of Central Oklahoma. She holds a career record of 42-10 in singles and 49-14 in doubles. She went undefeated in MIAA and regional play through her time at Central Oklahoma.
Abidullina finished this past season ranked third by the ITA in singles for the central region. She aided Central Oklahoma to a national runner up finish at the NCAA tournament in 2022.
During her inaugural season, the Moscow, Russia native burst onto the scene and worked her way up to the No. 2 ranking in the country as a singles player. Her 22-5 singles record and 24-8 doubles record earned her the MIAA Player and Freshman of the Year awards, along with a First Team All-MIAA honor.
Off the court, she was an ITA All-Academic selection in 2020, 2021, and 2022, while also garnering ITA Scholar Athlete honors in 2021.
She graduated from School 49 in Russia in 2016 and holds a bachelor's degree from Central Oklahoma.
Santianna Chrysopoulo | Freshman | San Antonio, Texas | Saint Andrews School
Chrysopoulo graduated from Saint Andrews School in 2022 and will join the Delaware tennis squad this fall. A captain during her senior campaign, she earned the Palm Beach Girls Tennis Player of the Year award. Her 9-1 singles record and 8-1 doubles record as a senior led her to the FHSAA Class 1A Individual State Semifinals. The San Antonio, Texas native is ranked a four-star player by TennisRecruiting.net.
Chrysopoulo plans on majoring in mechanical engineering at UD.
Katie Dollens | Freshman | Hinsdale, Ill. | Hinsdale Central
Dollens graduated from Hinsdale Central High School in 2022 and will be entering her freshman year at UD. She was a state champion her freshman, sophomore, and senior seasons at Hinsdale Central. Dollens was a state doubles finalist her sophomore and senior campaigns. A three-time conference and sectional champion, she captained the squad in her final season. The Hinsdale, Ill. native is ranked a four-star player by TennisRecruiting.net.
Dollens intends to major in sociology at Delaware.
Maryia Hrynashka | Freshmen | Rancho Cordova, Calif. | Horizon Charter School
A 2022 graduate of Horizon Charter School and a five-star rated player by TennisRecruiting.net, Hrynashka comes to UD as the 51st ranked player nationally according to Babolat.
She plans to study applied molecular biology at UD.
Olga Mishenina | Freshman | Krasnodar, Russia | Emilio Sanchez American School
Mishenina graduated from Emilio Sanchez American School in 2022. On the international level, she claimed victory in the ITF G3 doubles, ITF G4 singles, and ITF G4 doubles, while being a finalist for ITF G4 and G5 doubles.
She plans to study business data analytics while in Newark.
Toni Nelson | Graduate Student | Buckeye, Ariz. | Arizona Connections Academy | Denver
A graduate transfer from Denver University, Nelson joins the Blue Hens after claiming All-Summit League honors in back-to-back seasons and aiding the Pioneers to a Summit League title in 2019, 2021, and 2022. Overall, Nelson posted a 29-14 career record in singles play and 35-18 in doubles. She graduated in 2022 from the Denver University with a bachelor's degree in real estate property development.
Prior to Denver, Nelson attended Arizona Connections Academy. She participated in the USTA International Spring Championship, USTA Easter Bowl Championship, and the Newport Beach ITF tournament. Coming out of high school, she was ranked No. 73 on the Babalot Recruiting list.
