led the Blue Hens to the 1979 Division II National Championship
NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware football fans who tune into the broadcast of this Saturday's football fans will probably recognize at least one of the voices. Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame member and football alum Scott Brunner will join Jon Mozes in the FloFootball broadcast booth as a color analyst for a pair of upcoming Blue Hen games. Brunner will be on the call for UD's home games against Hampton (Sept. 24) and Morgan State (Oct. 22).
A 1980 Delaware graduate, Brunner is one of the most successful quarterbacks in program history. He played under UD Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond and led the Blue Hens to the NCAA Division II national title in his only year as a starter in 1979. He was inducted into the NCAA Division II Hall of Fame in 2002.
Scott earned First Team All-American honors by the American Football Coaches Association and was the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-East Player of the Year in 1979 when he threw for 2,401 yards and a then-school record 24 touchdowns in leading Delaware to a 13-1 record and a national title game win over Youngstown State.
A native of Lawrenceville, N.J., Scott was selected in the sixth round of the National Football League draft by the New York Giants and enjoyed a solid six-year professional career. He played with the Giants (1980-83), Denver Broncos (1984), Green Bay Packers (1985), and St. Louis Cardinals (1985) and threw for 6,457 yards and 29 touchdowns in 30 career starts. He led the Giants to the NFC semifinals in 1981.
No stranger to the broadcast booth, Brunner returned to college football as a television and radio announcer in the early 2000s, including calling Delaware games for the A-10 Television Network. He has also served as a quarterback coach, including mentoring fellow UD Hall of Famer Joe Flacco prior to the 2008 NFL Draft.
