NEWARK, Del. – Following its memorable 14-7 victory over FBS opponent Navy on Saturday, the University of Delaware football team has risen in both of the national polls.
The Blue Hens moved up to No. 10 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 as well as No. 13 in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Delaware had been ranked No. 19 in both national preseason polls.
The Blue & Gold opened the 2022 season and the Ryan Carty era with the program's 16th all-time win over an FBS program. Nolan Henderson threw touchdown passes to Bryce DeMaille and Chandler Harvin and Johnny Buchanan tied a UD record with 23 tackles on the day, including nine solo stops and a forced fumble. The defense allowed just seven points, the fewest by a CAA team against an FBS opponent since 2006, and forced three turnovers while holding Navy 0-for-3 on fourth downs.
Buchanan was named both the CAA Defensive Player of the Week and FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week by Stats Perform.
