ORLANDO, Fla. -Â All eyes will be in Orlando, Fla. this weekend, Jan. 13-15, as the University of Delaware Spirit squad will be competing at the UCA/UDA College National Championships inside the Walt Disney World Resort.
The Blue Hens are heading to the Sunshine State as the favorites to hoist up the national championship in the Small Coed Game Day Division and in the Division I Hip Hop categories. Coed Cheer put together a dynamic performance in the finals to earn their fourth-straight national title while dance captured their sixth national trophy.Â
"The student-athletes have been working endlessly to not only meet the Delaware standard but also raise it," said head coach Ryan Blanford. "We are excited to defend our titles in small coed game day and hip hop, while also continuing to push for championships in our other divisions. This weekend will be a thriller for the Blue Hens. We hope to make Blue Hen Nation proUD and bring back some more hardware!"
The Blue & Gold will be looking to build on last year's outing after YoUDee captured second place in the mascot category, coed cheer team earned a third-place finish in the Cheer Division I and all-girl cheer earned third place in All Girl Division I Cheer. Dance will look to bounce back as contenders in the Division I Jazz category after last season's sixth place finish.Â
Delaware will also be competing in the Group Stunt category for the first time since 2018.
2022 marked the 16th-straight year that the Delaware Spirit program has brought back a national championship to Newark. Overall, the Blue Hen spirit teams have won 24 national championships (nine from cheer, seven from dance and eight from mascot).
