NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware women's soccer head coach Kelly Lawrence has announced that transfer Carly Binn has joined the Blue Hens' program.
"Carly already had a great appreciation for the University of Delaware as Delaware is in her family," Lawrence said. "It became apparent that this is where Carly is meant to be and where we believe she will thrive in the classroom and on the field. The best is yet to come for her."
Binn, a native of Middletown, N.J., arrives from University of Albany, where she was a Second-Team America East All-Conference player during her sophomore season. She started in all 20 games this past season, and led the team in minutes played while anchoring the Great Danes' defense.
"I chose the University of Delaware because of the impressive programs both athletically and academically," Binn said. "I'm excited to be in a such competitive conference, meet all of the girls, and have a successful season!"
At Middletown High School, Binn helped her team to a state championship and received All-Division, All-County, and All-Shore honors. She was also named captain as a senior and was named Team MVP in her final two seasons. In the classroom, she was a member of the Latin Honors Society, Peer Leaders, Student Government, Junior Council and Senior Council.
"As a soccer player, Carly is a competitor at heart, loves the battle, and has a high level of game insight," Lawrence said. "We will be able to transition quickly because of her mentality to turn defensive moments into attacking moments. We look forward to having the spring season with Carly, which will prove valuable as we work to unify and elevate through the spring season."Â
