Football Rises to No. 7 in National Polls

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team moved up in the national polls for the fifth-consecutive week. The Blue Hens battled rainy conditions and came away with a 21-6 Homecoming victory over North Carolina A&T to rise to No. 7 in both the AFCA Coaches Poll and the Stats Perform FCS Top 25.
The Blue & Gold rushed for 322 yards to win its fourth-consecutive game. Kyron Cumby rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense while Marcus Yarns also cracked the 100-yard plateau, going for 126 yards. The 322 rushing yards were the most by a Delaware team since the 2020-21 Spring season and Yarns and Cumby became the first UD duo to rush for 100 yards each since 2019.
Jackson Taylor was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the UD defense with a game-high 15 tackles and also added a sack and 4.0 TFLs for 14 yards. It was the fourth-most individual TFLs in a game in program history. He led a Blue Hen defense that recovered three fumbles and held NC A&T to just 196 total yards of offense. Delaware's 12.0 TFLs were the most by the program since recording 15 TFLs against Villanova in 2008. It was Taylor's third-straight game with at least 10 tackles and he leads the Blue Hens with 59 takedowns on the season.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens head out on the road for each of the next two weekends for a pair of CAA contests. Delaware will travel to Hampton on Saturday, October 21 for a 2 p.m. contest.
