Askarova, Staiculescu Advance to Regional Semifinals, Women’s Tennis Sends Four to Main Draw

LYNCHBURG, Va. – University of Delaware women's tennis duo of Eliza Askarova and Alex Staiculescu advanced to the ITA Atlantic Regional Semifinals, while the pair was joined by Slade Coetzee and Maryia Hrynashka in the singles main draw. This is believed to be the first time in program history that the Hens sent four competitors to the main draw for singles.

Askarova returned to the semifinals for the second-straight season in doubles after she and Adel-Byanu Abidullina won the event last year.

ON THE RECORD
"I feel very encouraged with our performance this past weekend," Director of Tennis/Head Women's Tennis Coach Pablo Montana said. "We beat and competed some of the best players and teams in our region. I know we will continue to learn and improve as we go through this fall season."

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Collectively, the Hens posted an 8-4 record in singles and 5-2 record in doubles.
Staiculescu and Hrynashka won a pair of matches each in the qualifying draw to advance to the main draw, with the former winning her first match in the main draw. Hrynashka's loss came to the 85^th ranked player in the nation.
Coetzee won two matches to advance to the round of 16.
Askarova and Staiculescu went 4-1 in doubles action, including a win over the fiftieth-ranked duo out of Old Dominion.
