Softball Announces 2024 Schedule

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has announced their schedule for the 2024 season, which features 50 regular season games, including 21 at home.
The reigning two-time CAA regular season champions will begin the season at the Gardner-Webb Tournament from Feb. 9-11 in Boiling Springs, N.C., where they will play Youngstown State, Gardner-Webb, and East Tennessee. The Blue Hens will then compete in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament from Feb. 16-18 in Fort Myers, Fla. against Conference USA's reigning champion Middle Tennessee, Akron, and Florida Gulf Coast. Delaware plays their final away tournament in Charlottesville, Va. from Feb. 23-25, where they'll play Power 5 opponents Iowa State and Virginia along with Lehigh. They will finish the month with their home opener on Feb. 28 when they host Delaware State.Â
March begins with Delaware hosting their final regular season tournament of the season from March 1-3 when they welcome Maine, Bucknell, and Fairfield to Newark. Delaware will then begin CAA conference play with a three-game series at home against Charleston from March 8-10 before playing a non-conference game against Morgan State on March 13. The Blue Hens will begin a seven-game road trip from March 15-27, with three games against North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook and a non-conference game against Saint Joseph's. March concludes with three games at home against Drexel on the 29th and 30th.Â
Delaware will play four road games in a row between April 5-10, beginning with Elon and concluding with Villanova. The Blue Hens return to Newark for two straight home weekend series, beginning with Monmouth from April 12-14 and concluding with Hofstra from April 19-21. They will play their final road weekend series against Towson from April 26-28 to close out the month. Delaware finishes the regular season at home against Campbell from May 2-4.Â
The Blue Hens will host the CAA Conference Tournament this season, which is set to begin on May 7. Delaware enters the season having won the CAA regular season in each of the past two seasons. They also return CAA Pitcher of the Year Emily Winburn, First-Team All-CAA honoree Julz Garber, and CAA All-Rookie honoree Kate Scheivert. Also highlighting Delaware's returning players are Grace Hrustich, Chloe Blantz, Gracyn Frost, Kendall Shank, and Sydney Shaffer. Joining Delaware from the transfer portal is two-time All-Big South selection Morgan Hess and two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection Maddie Fife. Head coach Jen Steele enters the season with a record of 124-78 at Delaware, including having won the last two CAA Coach of the Year awards.
