NEWARK, Del. – Director of Athletics, Community, & Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak and Head Football Coach Ryan Carty have been tabbed among Delaware's most influential sports people by Delaware Online.
Rawak, who has held her position since May of 2016, has taken Delaware Athletics to new heights. In the classroom, Blue Hen student-athletes have a 3.21 cumulative GPA, including 18-straight semesters of 3.0 GPA or higher.
There has been no shortage of success on the playing surface under Rawak's direction. Field hockey won the 2016 NCAA National Championship, while the spirit programs have won an abundance of national titles across multiple disciplines. In CAA play, the Hens have garnered 23 CAA Regular Season and Tournament Championships as teams, including titles across 10 different programs, while also collecting 20 individual CAA Championships.
In 2021-22, Delaware finished 104th out of 350 schools in the Learfield Directors Cup standings, the highest in the CAA and our second highest finish since 1998.
With an emphasis on the 302 community, Rawak has expanded UD's engagement in the State of Delaware. She's made it a priority to be engaged members of the Delaware Chamber of Commerce. The Hens have also hosted multiple Blue Hen Business Forums to engage with local businesses.
Highlighted by the construction of the Whitney Athletic Center, Rawak transformed the student-athlete experience at UD. The brand-new Whitney Athletic Center is a 90,000 square foot facility that houses all sport performance and student-athlete success functions supporting all 600+ of our student-athletes.
A UD alum, Carty returned to Newark this past season to lead the football program. His first head coaching win came in game number one with a stifling effort to upend Navy for the program's first win over an FBS team since 2007.
Carty and co. finished the season 6-1 at home, revitalizing the Delaware fan base that ranked among the top 10 in attendance nationally. The home slate culminated with an NCAA FCS Playoff contest that saw the Blue Hens dominate St. Francis 56-17. The FCS Playoff appearance was just the third in the last 12 years for the Blue Hens.
