NEWARK, Del. – Four members of the University of Delaware cross country/track & field program earned a spot on the 2023 Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday (May 31). Megan Albamonti, Sarah Daniels, Chioma Njoku and Marie-Frederique Poulin join the elite list of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Albamonti, a native of Westerly, R.I., recently graduated with her bachelor's degree in human physiology after spending three seasons in the Blue & Gold uniform headlining in the javelin throw. Albamonti is a three-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) javelin champion, the first three-peat champion in recent history (2021-23), and most recently competed at the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships East First Rounds, advancing to her first-ever national championship next week. Albamonti holds the school record throw of 55.78m and the Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium record throw of 50.55m. Albamonti has four wins this spring and plans on pursuing her Graduate degree in Human Environmental Sciences.
Daniels, a Burke, Va. native, recently graduated with her graduate degree in Public Policy after spending two seasons with the Blue Hens. Daniels earned All-CAA honors during the cross country season and has written her name in UD's track & field history books in the 5000m, 10,000m, and most recently the 3000m steeplechase with her 10:34.74 time sitting third overall. Daniels captured three wins (one cross country, two track) this season and will pursue a career in criminal justice reform policy advocacy.
Njoku, the Newark, Del. native, recently graduated with her bachelor's degree in Nutrition & Medical Sciences after being part of the throws event group for three seasons. Njoku most recently made her first-career appearance at the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships First Rounds competing in the hammer throw thanks to her school-record throw of 59.45m. Njoku saw her third attempt fly through the air for 57.14m to finish in 32nd place, concluding her career in the Blue & Gold uniform. She posted two wins during the spring campaign and plans on pursuing her Graduate degree in Business.
Poulin, a product of Trois-Rivières, QC Canada, recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sports Health. Headlining the 400m hurdles, Poulin tallied two wins this season and had a day at the CAA Championship where she clocked a school-record time of 58.83 to capture the bronze medal.
