NEWARK, Del. – Delaware student-athletes posted record highs in semester GPA and academic year GPA during the in 2022-23 school year, the department announced Thursday. For the year, the Blue Hens tallied a 3.286 cumulative GPA which is the highest non-COVID year in department history. That was aided by a 3.302 semester mark for spring 2023, which sits atop the rankings for non-COVID impacted semesters.
This marks the ninth-consecutive year and 19th-straight semester the department has posted a GPA over 3.000.
"I am so proUD of our student-athletes for continuing to excel in the classroom," Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak said. "They continue to demonstrate an incredible commitment to being great both on and off the playing surface. A special shout out to our Student Services for Athletes team, led by Tim Morrissey. Tim and his staff work tirelessly to make sure our student-athletes are supported!"
Men's golf led a cohort of nine programs with a 3.4 or better GPA in spring 2023 with a 3.650. Women's golf led all women's teams with a 3.532. Joining the group was men's tennis, field hockey, women's swimming and diving, women's rowing, volleyball, women's lacrosse, and women's soccer.
A total of 18 programs broke the 3.00 threshold with a total of 187 Blue Hens landing on the Dean's List. This pushes the total to 392 Dean's List honors over the 2022-23 academic year. Adding to the semester's honors, 69 Blue Hens posted a perfect 4.0 semester during the spring.
In addition, all three spirit programs maintained a 3.00 semester GPA with the mascot crew leading the pack with a 3.568.

Each academic year, every division I program across the country calculates it's Academic Performance Rate (APR) using a simple and consistent formula set by the NCAA. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
The Blue Hens completed the most recent APR cycle with an average single-year rate of 988 out of 1000 and led the CAA in men's lacrosse, women's tennis, and volleyball.
Eleven programs posted a perfect single-year APR score of 1,000 – men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, cross country, women's rowing, field hockey, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and volleyball – demonstrating the Blue Hens commitment to academic excellence and retention.
