Highmark Medical Tent Helps Give Delaware Teams an Edge

NEWARK, Del. – When fans attend any University of Delaware football or lacrosse game, there is always one constant on the Blue Hens' sideline. The Highmark Medical Tent sits proudly at both home and road contests to assist the UD medical staff give the best possible care to the student-athletes.
"The Blue Hens are synonymous with our home, the First State," said Nick Moriello, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware. "Supporting a healthy home, a healthy Delaware, and healthy Blue Hens, is part of our mission to create remarkable health experiences. We're proud to be part of the UD team."
The competitive advantage that the medical tent now provides Delaware's student-athletes is quite significant. With its location right on the sideline, Delaware's medical personnel are able to utilize the medical tent to quickly evaluate and treat in-game injuries and return the Blue Hens to game action faster.
The medical tent offers a spacious and private place for Delaware's team doctors, consultants and athletic trainers to provide an immediate examination and diagnosis of an injury. The protection of privacy is paramount when treating an in-game injury and, prior to the medical tent, a student-athlete had to be transported to a private location away from the field, often taking several extra minutes of valuable game time.
"Having the medical tent sponsored by Highmark has tremendously changed our standard of care during Delaware football games," said Associate AD and Head Football Athletic Trainer Brandon DeSantis. "We are able to complete our evaluations and treatments and provide in-game protection techniques to our student-athletes with the privacy that they need and require."
