Women's Basketball to Play in Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team will spend the Thanksgiving break in Fort Myers, Fla. competing in the Clean Simple Eats Gulf Coast Showcase inside Hertz Arena on Nov. 24-26. The Blue Hens is one of eight teams that make up the tournament field and will open things up on Friday, Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast. The tournament will consist of 12 games over a three-day time span and all games will be available on FloHoops.
The tournament field features six squads that competed in postseason play a year ago, including the NCAA national runners up Iowa. Delaware along with Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas State, North Carolina, Purdue Fort Wayne, Vermont and Western Kentucky round out the field.
This will be the first time in program history that Delaware and Florida Gulf Coast will be meeting. FGCU have posted five Top 25 finishes in the past six seasons, owning a 582-105 (.847) all-time mark since head coach Karl Smesko started the program prior to the 2002-03 season. The .847 win percentage is the best in NCAA Division I women's basketball history.
Action starts Friday, Nov. 24 with the following matchups:
Kansas vs Western Kentucky – 11 a.m. ET
North Carolina vs. Vermont – 1:30 p.m.
Florida Gulf Coast vs Delaware – 5 p.m.
Iowa vs Purdue Fort Wayne – 7:30 p.m.
Game times for Saturday and Sunday will be the same with semifinal games on Saturday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday's championship game will tip at 7 p.m.
