NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team dropped its fourth game in a row Friday night as the Blue Hens fell 3-1 to William & Mary at home.

COACH'S QUOTE
"Congrats to W&M and how they capitalized on their opportunities," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "Although we have a lot of good to look back at and add on moving forward, we had too many breakdown moments based on lack of individual discipline or trying to do more than a player can handle, and both instances end up hurting us in today's performance," van de Kerkhof continued. "Based on where we are in the standings, we understand that we have our work cut out for us. As a coaching staff we will lead our team through conversations and in a training setting to prepare for the required changes and corrections moving forward."

Junior Valentina Martorell tallied the Hens lone goal on the night
Genevieve Johnson recorded two shots with both on frame as UD tallied eight shots on the day
Martorell added two shots of her own on goal

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first half, the Tribe found the back of the Blue Hens cage at the 24:24 mark in the second quarter to put William & Mary up 1-0 headed into the half
Just over a minute into the third, the Tribe took a 2-0 edge on a goal from Jayden Moon
Much of the fourth quarter went scoreless, until the final four minutes when Martorell cut the Tribe's lead to 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 56:46 mark
After the Hens pulled their keeper at the 55:50 mark, William & Mary took advantage of the empty net as the Tribe scored their third goal with under a minute left on a penalty corner to down the Hens 3-1
