RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware women's basketball freshman center Ande'a Cherisier has been honored as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week, announced by league officials Monday afternoon. This is the first award of Cherisier's young career.
In Delaware's 1-1 week, the Baltimore, Md. native showcased her exceptional talent, averaging 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. Her stellar performance included shooting 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the field and an impressive 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the free throw line. Cherisier's contributions were pivotal to the team's success, as she achieved a new career high in points in consecutive games.
Against Northeastern on Friday (Jan. 26), Cherisier led the charge with a team-high 14 points (6-of-9 FG, 2-of-2 FT), accompanied by two blocks and two steals, despite the 73-66 home setback. Undeterred, Cherisier continued her exceptional performance in her second career start on Sunday (Jan. 28) against Towson. She dominated the court, leading all scorers with a career-best 21 points, shooting an outstanding 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the charity stripe, and securing a 73-59 home victory. Her seven rebounds further solidified the team's triumph, ending the Blue Hens' four-game skid. This remarkable display marked Cherisier's sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and the first achieved in consecutive matchups.
Throughout the season, Cherisier has maintained an average of 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest, boasting shooting percentages of 48.6 percent (54-of-111) from the field and 73.2 percent (30-of-41) from the free throw line.
