Cross Country Takes Second Place at NJIT Highlander XC Challenge

NEWARK, N.J. – The University of Delaware cross country team returned to the trails Saturday afternoon, eager to compete in the 5K course at the Highlander XC Challenge, hosted by NJIT. Collectively, the Blue Hens secured a second-place finish with 36 points, led by Kadence Dumas as she spearheaded the Blue & Gold's effort.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Dumas led the way as being the first Blue Hen to cross the 5K finish line in a personal-best time of 18:28.7 to secure third place overall.
- Close behind Dumas was Lauren Thomas, who also set a personal best with a time of 18:31.3, earning fourth place.
- Rounding out Delaware's scoring five, all with personal-best performances, were Leah Clear (18:41.9, 7th overall), Anna Pryor (19:00.2, 10th overall) and Katie Kuhlman (19:10.1, 12th overall).
- Contributing further with personal-best times were Libby DeMichele (19:39.6, 21st overall) and Jordan Blanck (20:24.3, 40th overall).
RACE NOTES
- Seven of the eight Blue Hens set new personal-best times on the 5K course.
- Army West Point captured the team title with 35 points, while Lindsay Cook claimed the individual crown for the Black Knights with a time of 18:17.8.
- This marks the first time in program history that Delaware has competed in the Highlander XC Challenge.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will return to the trails next Friday, Oct. 18, making their program debut at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. The race, set to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 a.m. CT, will mark the conclusion of the regular-season campaign.
