Arsit Areephun Named CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's golfer Arsit Areephun has been named the CAA Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The award, the first of the career for Areephun and the first of the season for the Blue Hens, recognizes his performance at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
Playing at the Palm Valley Golf Club (Par 72 / 7,015 yards) in Goodyear, Arizona, Areephun tied for second place in a field of 116 golfers. The sophomore set a UD 36-hole record as he carded a 5-under 67 and 7-uner 65 over the first two rounds for a 12-under 132. He was the tournament leader after 36 holes before turning in an even-par 72 on Sunday. His three-round score of 204 is tied for the second best 54-hole score in program history. Overall, Areephun recorded 18 birdies for the tournament, including eight in each of the first two rounds.
Delaware finished in sixth place in the 20-team field at the Loyola Intercollegiate, turning in team rounds of 283-285-285 to finish the three-day tournament at 11-under par. The Blue Hens opened the tournament with a five-under par on Sunday before carding three-under pars on both Monday and Tuesday. Delaware totaled 68 birdies across the three days.

The Blue & Gold will have a couple of weeks off before traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for The Surf Club Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State. The two-day, three-round tournament will be held March 11-12.
