RICHMOND, Va. – The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced the 2024 Women's Basketball postseason award winners Tuesday afternoon and freshman center Ande'a Cherisier was the lone representation for the University of Delaware. Cherisier's exceptional performance has earned her a well-deserved spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team. The last Blue Hen to achieve this honor was Tyi Skinner during the 2020-21 season.
Hailing from Baltimore, Md., Cherisier made an indelible mark in her inaugural collegiate season, seamlessly transitioning into the starting rotation and asserting her dominance in the paint. Earning her first-career postseason award and starting in 12 of her 28 appearances this season, Cherisier ranks third among the team with 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, complemented by a 49.3 percent field goal rate and an exceptional 72.5 percent accuracy from the free-throw line.
Cherisier has scored in double figures in 12 games (longest streak: three games), notably achieving a career-high 21 points against Towson on January 28, highlighted by an impressive 11-of-12 free throw conversion. Her dynamic presence extended beyond scoring, as she consistently secured seven or more rebounds in eight contests, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with in the conference. In 16 conference games played, Cherisier averaged 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting an impressive 52.7 percent from the field and 76.7 percent from the charity stripe. Cherisier's defensive prowess also garnered attention, ranking among the conference leaders in both blocked shots per game (t-11th, 0.5) and total blocked shots (t-15th, 15). Cherisier's stellar performance on the court earned her recognition from the conference as the top rookie of the week on one occasion.
As the excitement builds, the No. 10 Blue Hens eagerly anticipate their upcoming challenge in the 2024 Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Primis. Delaware is set to face the No. 7 seed Drexel in the second round on Thursday, March 14, at 5 p.m. inside the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., home to the Washington Mystics. Coverage of the tournament will be available on FloHoops until the championship game on March 17, which will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
