Softball's Season Comes To Close In CAA Conference Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. - University of Delaware's softball was eliminated in the CAA Conference Tournament by No. 1 seed Campbel, 4-3, on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Delaware finished their season with a record of 39-14, their most wins in program history and their second best record in program history by win percentage and their best record in program history in a non-COVID shortended season.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Chloe Blantz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.Â
- Katie Scheivert and Julia Boyet went 2-for-4 with runs scored.
- Lillie Scheivert went 1-for-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens scored two in the first inning to take an early lead. Katie Scheivert and Boyet singled and Sydney Shaffer walked to load the bases. Blantz singled in Scheivert and Boyet to put Delaware up 2-0.
- Winburn stranded the bases loaded in the first inning, and left a runner at third in the second with a strikeout of the CAA Player of the Year, Alyssa Henault. Campbell scored two two-out runs in the third to tie it before the game was called due to inclement weather.Â
- The game was resumed at 12:00 P.M., Saturday.
- Morgan Hess relieved Winburn to start the fourth and threw a 1-2-3 inning with two groundouts.
- Campbell retook the lead in the fifth and tacked a run on in the sixth.Â
- Delaware strung together one final rally in the seventh, as Julz Garber, Katie Scheivert, and Boyet all singled to load the bases with no outs. Garber scored a run on a double play, but the tying run was left at third.
GAME NOTES
- Emily Winburn and Julia Boyet were named to the CAA All-Tournament team. It's Winburn's third-straight All-Tournament honor, as she pitched to a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings, appearing in all three games and throwing a shutout. She allowed just 16 hits, struck out 16, and held the opposition to a 2.00 BAA.Â
- Boyet hit .333./333/.500 with a triple in 12 at bats.
- Winburn finished the season with 41 appearances, 207.1 innings pitched, a 1.52 ERA, 147 strikeouts, and 22 wins. She became the second Delaware pitcher to ever pitch at least 200 innings in a season (Carolynn Sloat 2004, 2006). Her 41 appearances tied her for the program record with Jordan Cargile (2017) and Sloat (2004). Winburn's 147 strikeouts were also the fifth most in a season in program history. Her 1.52 ERA is the lowest in a season since Sloat had a 1.42 in 2004.Â
- Garber finished the yearwith 62 hits, sixth most in a season and most since Mariah Kondravy in 2017. Her 172 career hits are the 11th most in program history.Â
