NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team will make the short trip to College Park early in 2028 season for a nonconference contest against the University of Maryland. The matchup will take place on September 9 at the Terrapins' SECU Stadium.
The contest at Maryland will be Delaware's second game of the 2028 season as the Blue Hens will open the campaign the week before in a September 2 matchup at James Madison. The game with the Dukes was originally scheduled for September 9, but has been moved up to week one.
Maryland is coming off an 8-5 season in 2023, including starting the year with five-consecutive wins, and a 4-5 record in Big Ten play. The Terrapins earned a bid to the Transperfect Music City Bowl in Nashville where they came away with a 31-13 victory over Auburn.
Delaware and Maryland have met 10 times prior with the Blue Hens holding a 5-4-1 all-time record against the Terrapins. The first matchup between the two programs took place in 1899, a 32-0 Delaware victory and UD won five of the first six meetings. There has only been one contest since 1948, a 14-7 Maryland win in the 2008 season opener.
Season tickets and partial plan packages for the 2024 season are on sale now. With an additional home game in 2024, the ticket price per game for every season ticket in the stadium decreased from last season. Due to the additional home game, the total season ticket price increased slightly from 2023. Season ticket members save up to $27 per game over individual game tickets. Furthermore, season ticket prices will not increase for renewing season ticket members for the inaugural season of FBS in 2025.
Single game tickets for all home games, except UD's Parents & Family Weekend contest against Sacred Heart (Sep. 28), will go on sale on June 1. Fans can purchase tickets to Parents and Family weekend now if you purchase season tickets or within a partial plan package.
