NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware student-athletes flourished in the classroom in 2023-24, posting a collective 3.313 GPA which is the highest-ever, the department announced Tuesday. This marks the 10th-consecutive year and 21st-straight semester that the department has secured a GPA at 3.000 or higher.
"Our student-athletes continue to make me proUD," Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak said. "Their unwavering dedication to being a champion in the classroom and in competition shows how relentless they are. I cannot thank our Student Services for Athletes team, led by Tim Morrissey, and our coaches enough for the continued support to help our student-athletes excel."
In total, 214 Hens landed on the dean's list during spring 2024 for a total of 418 for the year. A record 72 student-athletes claimed a perfect 4.0 semester. In total, 19 programs secured a 3.0 or better this past spring and 18 went above 3.0 for the entire academic year.
Men's golf led all teams in spring 2024 with a 3.667, while field hockey paced the women's teams at 3.651. Those programs were joined by women's lacrosse, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's golf, and women's soccer to eclipse the 3.5 threshold.
In addition, all three spirit programs maintained a 3.20 semester GPA with the mascot crew leading the pack with a 3.638.
Each academic year, every division I program across the country calculates its Academic Performance Rate (APR) using a simple and consistent formula set by the NCAA. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
Delaware finished atop the CAA in multi-year APR for men's golf, men's lacrosse, women's golf, women's soccer, women's tennis, and volleyball.
