NEWARK, Del. – A 2008 University of Delawre alumnus, former men's lacrosse player, and current sports media personality Evan Washburn will be the 2025 student-athlete graduation speaker, the Department of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation (DACCR) announced Monday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Evan back to campus to be our student-athlete graduation speaker," Interim Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Jordan Skolnick said. "Evan is an incredible ambassador for the university and a true representation of what our student-athlete alums can do after graduation."
During his time in a Blue Hens uniform, Washburn was a four-year letterwinner, garnering All-CAA First Team honors and winning the UD Sportsmanship Award in 2008. A standout defender, he led Delaware to a berth in the NCAA Final Four during the 2007 season. His 19 games played in 2007 are tied for the most by a Delaware player in a single season. Washburn caused 34 turnovers in 45 career games for the Hens and was a team captain for Bob Shillinglaw in 2008.
"I could not be more excited and honored for the opportunity to be a part of the Delaware Student-Athlete Graduation," Washburn said. "My time as a student-athlete in Newark was incredibly impactful on the person and professional I am today. I can't wait to meet and celebrate the next generation of Blue Hens!"
Each year, DACCR invites a notable alumnus back to campus to speak at the department's invite-only graduation ceremony just for student-athletes. Washburn joins a long list of successful Blue Hens to make an impact both during and after their time on campus.
