NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware football's RB Marcus Yarns and DB Tyron Herring have signed NFL undrafted free agent contracts following the conclusion of the draft. Yarns will head to New Orleans with the Saints and Herring will head to Green Bay with the Packers.
The Salisbury, Maryland native ended his Delaware career in style, earning All-CAA First Team honors in 2024 after leading the Blue Hens with 844 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while also catching 17 passes for 297 yards and five scores. He averaged 126.8 all-purpose yards per game, and had five games with at least 100 rushing yards, including four-consecutive to end the season, making him the first Blue Hen since 2007 to accomplish that feat. He secured an invite to the NFL Combine, Reese's Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl heading into the draft.
Yarns finished his UD career with 2,344 rushing yards and 3,156 all-purpose yards, scoring 34 total touchdowns. He ranks 10th in program history in career-rushing yards and is the fourth Blue Hen all-time to score at least 20 rushing touchdowns (23) and 10 receiving touchdowns (11). Yarns earned a spot on the FCS Football Central All-American Third Team as well as All-CAA Second Team recognition after a breakout 2023 season. He is one of three players in program history to score five touchdowns in a single game, and his 6.42 yards per carry lands him in eighth place in the Blue & Gold record book.
A semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2024, Herring earned All-CAA Second Team honors in his final season in the Blue & Gold. He started in all 11 games, finishing with 30 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, an interception, and two pass breakups. He recorded a season-high five tackles on three separate occasions and had a key interception that led to a touchdown in the season finale at Villanova. Herring was voted a team captain prior to the season, becoming the first transfer to earn the captain title under head coach Ryan Carty.
The Delray Beach, Florida native started 12 games in 2023, his first season with the Blue Hens, and tied for the team lead with three interceptions while finishing with 42 tackles and five pass breakups to earn All-CAA Honorable Mention honors.
Herring graduated from Dartmouth College in 2023 with a degree in government after earning All-Ivy League honors as a senior. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in public administration (MPA) through Delaware's Joseph R. Biden School of Public Policy and Administration and spent the 2024 spring and summer as a legislative fellow with the state government in Dover.
