ON THE RECORD
- "I'm grateful for where we're leaving our mark in the CAA," head coach Asiya Mahmud said. "To see the growth of the team from last year to this year at the Championship has required a tremendous amount of personal growth for the athletes, and I'm really proud of who they're becoming as young women. The Varsity 8+ set a standard within the boathouse all season and that's something we're looking to carry over to next year. The standard was trust, working hard, and believing in the process for the entire season and it reflected in that boat's results. I think the team results from today also showed that everything and everyone matters. I'm appreciative of the senior leadership on the team this season and throughout every boat this weekend. Our team finish is a great foundational spot moving into the new conference next year."
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The Varsity Eight jumped off the line taking a narrow lead over Northeastern for the first 500m. Northeastern overtook the Blue & Gold heading into the second half of the race, holding an open water lead over the rest of the boats, as Delaware edged out Drexel for second place to earn 21 points towards the team standings. This was the second time since the CAA began sponsoring rowing in 2009 that Delaware's Varsity Eight won a silver medal.
- The Third Varsity Eight, who didn't compete in a preliminary heat yesterday, stayed with Northeastern for the first 1000m of the Grand Final before the Huskies began to pull away from the pack. The Blue Hens were able to keep distance between themselves and the rest of the boats, earning a second-place finish in the non-scoring event.
- Drexel got off the line with an open water lead through the first 1000m of the Varsity Four. Northeastern and Delaware battled for second place for most of the race, but the Huskies increased the distance between themselves and the Hens for the silver medal, leaving UD with a bronze finish and six points for the team.
- The Second Varsity Eight held a wire-to-wire lead over Monmouth in the Petite Final, beating the Hawks by 21 seconds to earn four points for the team.
