Softball Has Five Named To CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware's softball Chloe Blantz, Mary Beth Cahalan, Morgan Hess, Katie Scheivert, and Sydney Shaffer were all named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Cahalan, Hess, Scheivert, and Shaffer were also selected as CSC Academic-All-American finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 17, 2025.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, a player must carry a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore academically. Position players must also play in at least 90 percent of their team's games or start in at least two-thirds of them to qualify. For pitchers, eligible nominees need to pitch 35-plus innings or appear in 17 games as a pitcher.
Blantz, a pre-veterinary major, finished her career with her best offensive season. She hit .353/.408/.532 with five home runs, 33 RBIs, and 42 runs scored. Blantz started in 187 of the 189 games she appeared in at shortstop in four years and was a two-year captain.Â
Cahalan, a health behavior science major, spent her final season at Delaware after transferring from Dartmouth. She was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Third-Team All-Region, and First-Team All-CAA selection. She hit .323/.391./542 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs and threw out 52.9 percent of base stealers.Â
Hess, a criminal justice major, earned her third CSC Academic All-District honor. Hess was a First-Team All-Region and All-CAA selection for the second straight year. She hit .346/.411/.608 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, and 36 runs scored and went 11-5 in the circle with a 2.53 ERA. Hess is the third player in program history to earn two First-Team All-Region selections.Â
Scheivert, a sport management major, earned her second-straight CSC Academic All-District selection. She was a Second-Team All-CAA selection after she hit .333/.396/.467 with three home runs, 13 doubles, and 42 runs scored. Scheivert has also previously been named as an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2024 and 2023.Â
Shaffer, an elementary education major, put together the best offensive season in Delaware history. She hit .421/.540/.888 with 19 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 49 runs scored, setting program records for average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs, and total bases in a season. She was the CAA Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Region selection.Â
Delaware had a historic season in 2025 that led to its third CAA Regular Season Championship in four seasons. The Blue Hens set program records in home runs, doubles, strikeouts, conference wins, consecutive conference wins, run-rule victories, and consecutive run-rule victories in a season. Its 23 conference wins were the most ever by a CAA team. Delaware is one of eight Division I teams with at least 20 conference wins in the last two seasons.Â
