Shaffer, Hess Named CSC Academic All Americans

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware's Sydney Shaffer and Morgan Hess were named CSC Academic All-Americans, the organization announced on Tuesday, June 17. Shaffer and Hess are Delaware's second and third-ever Academic All-American honorees, and first since Krysta Pidstawski in 1998. Â
Shaffer was a First-Team selection, the first in program history. An elementary education major, she was joined on the First-Team by Lexie Brady of Ole Miss, Taylor Pannell of Tennessee, Paige Sinicki of Oregon, Miah McDonald of Marist, Mya Perez of Texas A&M, Rachel Roupe of Liberty, Kedre Luschar of Oregon, Kasidi Pickering Oklahoma, NiJaree Canady of Texas Tech, and Jordyn Bahl of Nebraska. Shaffer had a 3.93 GPA in the fall semester and 3.86 in the spring while putting together the best offensive season in program history. She hit .421/.540/.888 with 19 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 49 runs scored, setting program records for average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs, total bases, and extra base hits in a season. She was the CAA Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Region selection.Â
Hess was a Third-Team selection. A criminal justice major, Hess was joined by Laurel Moody of Brown, Lexi Winters of South Carolina, KK Mathis of Duke, Ailana Agbayani of Oklahoma, Kate Lappe of Northern Iowa, Jessica Clements, Raigan Kramer of Arkansas, Reese Basinger of Clemson, and Nicolette Picone of Coastal Carolina. Hess was a First-Team All-Region and All-CAA selection for the second straight year. She hit .346/.411/.608 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, and 36 runs scored and went 11-5 in the circle with a 2.53 ERA. She was 13th nationally with six shutouts. Hess also became the third player in program history to earn two First-Team All-Region selections.Â
Delaware had a historic season in 2025 that led to its third CAA Regular Season Championship in four seasons. The Blue Hens broke numerous program records during the year including home runs, doubles, strikeouts, conference wins, consecutive conference wins, run-rule victories, consecutive run-rule victories, and postseason honors in a season. The 23 conference wins were the most ever by a CAA team. Delaware is one of eight Division I teams with at least 20 conference wins in the last two seasons. UD will compete as a member of Conference USA starting in 2026.Â
