Men’s Lacrosse’s Wilkes Promoted to Associate Head Coach

NEWARK, Del. – A key contributor to the University of Delaware men's lacrosse program's success over the past eight years, Trey Wilkes, has been promoted to associate head coach, head coach Ben DeLuca announced Monday.
"Trey Wilkes' dedication and myriad contributions, both on and off the field, have played a significant role in elevating our Blue Hens lacrosse program," DeLuca said. "Trey has demonstrated impeccable personal character, a tireless work ethic, and a commitment to excellence that inspires those around him. This well-deserved promotion is not only a testament to Trey's leadership and passion for our student-athletes, but also a clear signal of the respect he commands from our players and staff alike."
Wilkes, a former standout faceoff specialist at Ohio State University, joined DeLuca and the Fightin' Blue Hens staff as a volunteer assistant coach in the fall of 2017 before being promoted to assistant coach in June 2021.
"I would like to thank Interim Director of Athletics Jordan Skolnick and Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Ben DeLuca for their continued guidance and support," Wilkes said. "To our players – current and past – thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your lives on and off the field. It has been an honor to serve you over the last eight years, and I look forward to what's to come. Your commitment to one another and drive towards greatness continues to inspire me each and every day."
Wilkes, a native of Ijamsville, Md. in Frederick County, works with the defensive unit and faceoff specialists.
In Wilkes' eight years on staff, Delaware has produced 39 All-CAA performers and seven conference major award winners. He has additionally helped guide 10 Blue Hens who went on to earn USILA All-American honors.
Since joining DeLuca's staff in 2017, the Hens have won two regular season conference titles and two conference tournament championships. Under Wilkes' leadership, UD has had a scoring defense ranked inside the top 20 nationally six of his eight seasons, four in the top ten, and two in the top five, while leading the conference four times.
At the X, Wilkes led the Delaware unit to the No. 2-ranked faceoff winning percentage (.643) in the country in 2025 and a first-place finish in the CAA in the category.
During his career at Ohio State, Wilkes earned Second Team All-ECAC honors, was a 2013 USILA Scholar All-American, a two-time All-Academic Big Ten selection, and a three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete. He also earned the prestigious Lindner Memorial Scholarship for his character and work ethic. Wilkes helped Ohio State post a then-program record best No. 3 national ranking and an NCAA Quarterfinals appearance against Cornell in 2013. He ranked 13th-nationally in face-off percentage that season, winning 58 percent of his 300 attempts and leading the squad with 68 ground balls.
