NEWARK, Del. – Carson Turner, formerly the defensive line coach at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, has joined the University of Delaware football staff as a defensive analyst, head coach Ryan Carty announced Wednesday.
"We are excited to welcome Carson to Newark," Carty said. "He brings a high energy and good playing experience that will allow him to assist Coach Hawkins with our defensive line."
Turner joins the Fightin' Blue Hens after spending the last seven years at Christopher Newport, five as a player and two as the defensive line coach.
"It was an absolute no-brainer when I had the opportunity to work at such a historic program with a rich winning history.," Turner said. "I couldn't be more excited to call the 302 my new home and be able to work with a championship caliber program!"
The Leesburg, Va. native appeared in 29 career games as a linebacker and defensive lineman for the Captains from 2019-23, totaling 67 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and four sacks. Following his collegiate playing career, Turner worked a summer with former NFL veteran and personal trainer, Logan Paulson, as a personal trainer working specifically with offensive and defensive linemen.
After the summer in personal training, Turner returned to his alma mater as the defensive line coach, a role he has held for the previous two seasons as the team went 14-7.
