Football Position Previews: Running Backs
8/19/2025 11:50:00 AM | Football
NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team is preparing for its first year at the FBS level, a historic season that kicks off at home against Delaware State on Thursday, August 28 at 7 p.m. Throughout fall camp, positional previews will be posted online to spotlight the different units that make up the 2025 Fightin' Blue Hens.
RUNNING BACKS
Running Backs Coach Xavier Dye is in charge of the running backs in his first season at Delaware. Dye came to Newark from Coastal Carolina, where he was the running backs coach for two seasons.
"We think the guys that we have can execute all the runs and all the pass concepts that we have that go to the running back," Dye said. "I think our guys do a nice job, and it's my job to keep coaching them to get them better."
With the task of replacing New Orleans Saints RB Marcus Yarns, the Hens will turn to Jo Silver, a senior who has played in 26 career games at UD. Silver was named a candidate for the Doak Walker Award. It is the first time a Blue Hen has been named a candidate for a major FBS award in program history. Silver also earned Preseason All-Conference USA honors from Athlon Sports (First Team) and Phil Steele (Second Team).
Rotating in with Silver are Tulsa transfer Viron Ellison Jr. and returnee Saeed St. Fleur - both of which have collegiate playing experience. Ellison Jr. played in 11 games as a freshman for the Golden Hurricane, while St. Fleur has appeared in 23 games with Delaware.
Other returning players include Daniel McConomy, Oliver Redd, and Greg Spiller. True freshman Jared Porter (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) rounds out the room.
