Football’s Silver Named Doak Walker Award Candidate

DALLAS – University of Delaware football RB Jo Silver was named a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, the organization announced Tuesday. It is the first time a Delaware Fightin' Blue Hen has been named a candidate for a major FBS award in program history.
The Doak Walker Award honors the top running back in college football annually. Established in 1990, it is named in honor of Doak Walker, a former running back who played for the SMU Mustangs and is presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
Silver played in every game in 2024 and made one start. He tallied 462 rushing yards and four scores on 70 carries behind current New Orleans Saints' RB Marcus Yarns. Silver snagged 12 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. The Washington Township, N.J. native is positioned to be the Hens' starting back in 2025.
It has been a busy preseason for Silver as he was named Preseason All-Conference USA by Athlon Sports (First Team) and Phil Steele (Second Team). Silver was one of four players in Conference USA to be named a candidate for the award.
