SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - University of Delaware field hockey earned both MPSF Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Kate Fiest and Iris Bekker earned the laurels from the conference, in the second consecutive week that the Fightin' Blue Hens swept the awards.
The Fightin' Blue Hens defeated Kent State and Bucknell over the weekend, moving them to 2-3 on the season. Head coach Tara Zollinger earned her first win at UD after Friday's win over the Golden Flashes.
Fiest earns her first career weekly award, coming on the heels of scoring a goal and adding two assists. Against Kent State, she assisted on both goals, inserting the corner attempts that led to scores. While facing off against the Bison, Fiest netted her third goal of the season, extending a lead that the Hens never relinquished.
This is Bekker's second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor from the conference. She started the weekend out by playing her former school, Kent State, scoring a goal and picking up a defensive save in the shutout victory.Â
