Cherisier Notches Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Loses to New Mexico State in OT

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Ande'a Cherisier notched her fourth double-double of the season as the University of Delaware women's basketball team lost to New Mexico State, 64-57, in OT on Sunday. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 6-8, 0-2 CUSA, while the Aggies rise to 5-9, 1-1 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Cherisier's double-double came by way of 12 points and 11 boards.
- Trinity Vance scored 11 points, her eighth time in double figures this season.
- Safi Kolliegbo scored 10 points, marking the sixth-straight contest she has picked up double-figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UD got out to an 11-8 lead by the first media timeout, helped by six points by Kolliegbo. The first quarter ended with the Hens holding a 16-15 advantage.
- Delaware scored the first seven points of the second quarter causing New Mexico State to call a timeout a minute and a half into the frame. The run extended to 9-0 for the Blue & Gold with 6:24 left in the half. A 7-0 run for the Aggies to end the half left a 29-28 lead for the Hens at the break.
- New Mexico State took its first lead of the game to open the second half at 30-29. The Aggies led 38-37 at the third quarter media timeout with 3:58 to go until the fourth. A pair of Fantroy free throws gave UD a 43-41 lead with under a minute to go in the quarter. On the ensuing offensive possession, Kolliegbo made an and-one layup to give the Hens a five-point lead heading into the fourth.
- At the initial fourth quarter media timeout, the Blue Hens led 48-43 after each team traded a bucket to open the stanza. Delaware held the Aggies scoreless for 2:45 heading into the second media timeout of the frame, leaving a 50-45 UD lead with 4:58 to play. With 1:59 remaining in regulation, NMSU hit a pair of free throws to cut it to a one-point Delaware lead. A turnover by Delaware on the inbound and a layup for the Aggies gave the home team the lead back 53-52 with 1:02 left. Cherisier corralled an offensive rebound and put it back for a 54-53 Delaware lead with 41 seconds left. New Mexico State countered with an and-one layup to go up by two with 14.3 seconds left. Cherisier made a layup with 0.4 seconds on the clock to tie it and send it to overtime knotted at 56.
- New Mexico State made the first basket of the extra period with 2:59 to go. With 1:52 left in overtime, Delaware called a timeout down 62-56. UD called its final timeout down by six with 39.7 ticks left. NMSU held off the Hens for the final half-minute.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware held the Aggies to just two three-pointers made, the least of any opponent this season.
