HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Charlotte Payne stopped 46-of-47 shots she faced. She made 15 saves in the first period and stopped all 31 shots over the final two frames.
- Katie Belk scored a power play goal in the first period, and Lily Myers scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period.
- The Blue Hens blocked a season-high 32 shots, led by five from Tiana McInytre and four from both Lexie Lonask and Hailey Anderson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie Belk put the Blue Hens on the board first midway through the opening period with a power play tally. She took a cross-ice pass from Bailey Gray and fired a high wrist shot past the goalie.
- Union tied the game with a power play goal of its own late in the first period to send the teams to the locker room even at one.
- After Delaware withstood an early Union charge early in the second period, Billi Roman gathered a loose puck in the defensive zone and sprung Myers and Kyla Schneider on a 2-on-1 break. Schneider fed a perfect pass to Myers in the slot for a one-timer to give UD a 2-1 lead.
- The Blue Hens buckled down defensively in the third period as Union pushed for the equalizer. Payne made 13 saves over the final 20 minutes, while the defense blocked 16 attempts.
- The Garnet Chargers pulled the goalie for the final 2:20, but Payne came up with three big stops and Myers and Wren Abboud both had key blocked shots to seal the win.
OF NOTE
- Belk's goal was the first of her career. She becomes the seventh Blue Hen this season to score her first-collegiate goal.
- Roman's assist on Myer's second-period goal was her first point of the season.
