BOSTON – University of Delaware ice hockey fifth-year captain Tiana McIntyre has been named the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Defenseman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The award, the first of McIntyre's career, recognizes her performance during Delaware's weekend split at LIU.
McIntyre had a career weekend, assisting on all four of Delaware's goals. Her shot from the blue line on Friday led to a rebound goal by Katie Belk that gave the Fightin' Blue Hens a 1-0 lead in the first period. On Saturday, McIntyre became the first Blue Hen to record three points in a single game as she registered three assists in UD's 3-2 victory. She had two shots tipped past the goalkeeper, including Morgan Link's game-winning goal in the third period. It was McIntyre's first-career multi-point game. She led all Delaware blue-liners with four shots on goal for the weekend and added two blocked shots.
This is McIntyre first-career weekly award, and the third of the season for the Blue Hens. Charltotte Payne has twice been named the AHA Goaltender of the Week (Oct. 5, Oct. 19) for her performance in net.
