BOSTON – University of Delaware ice hockey's sophomore goalie Charlotte Payne has been named the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The award is the first of Payne's career and recognizes her performance in Delaware's home-opening weekend against Lindenwood.
Payne made 33 saves on Saturday afternoon to help lead the Fightin' Blue Hens to a 4-1 victory over the Lions to open AHA play. It was Delaware's first win of the season and third all-time victory. Payne made 25 stops after the first period, including 13 in the second period and 12 in the third when it was a one-goal game and Lindenwood was pushing for the equalizer. On Sunday, Payne had 23 more saves to finish the weekend with 56 saves and a .933 save percentage. She now owns a 1-1-1 record on the season with a .938 save percentage and a 1.99 goals against average.
This is Delaware's first weekly award of the season and third in program history. Katelynn Charlton and Lexie Lonask both earned AHA Rookie of the Week honors during UD's inaugural season.
