DALLAS – University of Delaware sophomore women's golfer Rhianna Gooneratne has been named the Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced the league office on Wednesday. It is the third weekly honor for Gooneratne in four tournaments this season and recognizes her performance at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas, earlier this week.
Gooneratne won her second-straight individual title, carding a 54-hole score of 2-under par 211 to claim medalist honors by two strokes. She opened with a 1-under par 70 and carded an even-par 71 to sit in second place after 36 holes. The sophomore jumped to first with another 1-under par 70 on Tuesday. Gooneratne had three birdies in each of her rounds to finish with nine for the tournament. Her three-round score of 211 is tied for the sixth-best 54-hole score in program history. Gooneratne led the Fightin' Blue Hens to a runner-up finish at the 14-team field.
The Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania native became the first Blue Hen to win individual titles in back-to-back tournaments. She previously earned medalist honors with an even-par scorecard at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Michigan State) in September. Gooneratne is the third Blue Hen to win two tournaments in the same season, joining Alisa Khokhlova (2024-25) and Andi Slane (2015-16).
