Cherisier Tallies Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Holds Off New Mexico State, 65-62

NEWARK, Del. – Ande'a Cherisier tallied her seventh double-double of the season as the University of Delaware women's basketball team held off New Mexico State, 65-62, inside the Bob Carpenter Center on Saturday. The Fightin' Blue Hens jump to 12-12, 6-6 CUSA, while the Aggies fall to 8-16, 4-8 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware scored 25 points in the third quarter, three more points than it scored in the first half (22).
- Cherisier's double-double came by way of 18 points on 50.0-percent shooting, while pulling down 10 rebounds.
- Trinity Vance scored 12 points on 40-percent shooting from beyond the arc.
- Lay Fantroy stood out on all sides of the ball in the contest, scoring nine points, corralling five rebounds, and picking up four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Safi Kolliegbo made the first bucket of the contest for the Blue Hens with UD jumping out to a quick 3-2 advantage. New Mexico State led 10-8 at the game's initial media timeout with 4:32 left in the first. The Aggies used an 8-0 run to end the first frame, leading 14-8.
- With 6:14 left in the second quarter, NMSU led 20-13. New Mexico State ended the half on a 6-0 run to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room at the break.
- A 9-0 stretch for the Hens gave UD the lead back, leaving a 31-30 advantage exactly halfway through the third frame. Delaware made five of its last six field goals to increase its lead to 47-39 heading into the fourth.
- New Mexico State used a 9-0 run in 1:34 to cut the Blue & Gold's lead to 54-50 with 5:40 to play in regulation. UD countered with the next two baskets to bring the home team's lead up to eight as the game entered the final five minutes. A three by the Aggies brought the visitors to within five with 1:16 remaining in regulation. Vance was intentionally fouled with 22 seconds left in the fourth, putting her at the line where she knocked down a pair of free throws to increase the UD lead to 64-59.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware moved to 42-7 when leading after three quarters under Sarah Jenkins.
- After tonight's contest, Kolliegbo is now two points away from 1,000-career points at 998.
